A deli-cate romance

“There used to be many of them around here.” Clive held the door open for the woman in a green coat. Natasha shook off her gloves and began scouting the cured meats on display.

“Amazing!” she said, delighting in the olive bread and odd-looking cheeses that was definitely not cheddar.

“Now our delicatessen is the only one of its kind for miles.” He selected a few items, placed them into a paper bag and held it out to her with a lopsided smile.

She looked at him from beneath her lashes, “Well, let’s hope it is here to stay.”

Why are the others gone? Why did she express hope that it’s here to stay? Do they feel threatened?

A quick google search on history of delicatessens showed that the traditional authentic types are on the decline. I used it to serve as a background for the budding romance between the two. She hopes Clive’s deli is here to stay, because she hopes to start a relationship with him.

She seemed to be sinical. Is there a reason for the Deli to move?

Not cynical. She’s flirting.. but perhaps not very good at it. 🙂

Everyone should have a good favourite deli they can call into and feel at home. Just last month my favourite shut down, without warning; they did the most wonderful filled baguettes, I’ll really really miss it. Greggs can FOAD!!

Greggs doesn’t seem to do it for you, hey? LOL. Traditional deli’s are on the way out it seems, though they do offer something homely that modern eateries and stores do not.

I hope it’s there to stay too. At least she will be returning often. 🙂
