Forever young

PHOTO PROMPT © CEAyre

“Remember this place?” Andy said, spreading his arms out over the cobblestone streets.

Delilah marveled at his crinkle-free eyes. As hazel as the day they met forty years ago. A pair of women in strappy dresses smiled brazenly at Andy. Boldly flirtatious. So different from her day. She wasn’t mad. They assumed she was his mother. How were they to know Andy stopped aging at twenty-five?

Miraculous, the doctors had said.

“How could I forget? This is where we first met.”

“You mean when you almost bumped me over with your scooter!” Together they laughed, eyes shining and hearts fluttering.

How joyful that Andy still loves Delilah so romantically, despite now seeming so much younger. Lovely story, Fatima!

It was this enduring love that I wanted to portray. The youthfulness of their love. Thank you, Penny dear.

I’m planning on staying forever young. I just hope my body goes along with the plan.

Haha! Our bodies can be so uncooperative in such plans. Thank you for reading!

What a curious story, a really good idea like Benjamin Button, by the way I love the photo on the title page of your blog, is that in india?

It was inspired by Benjamin Button. I like the exploration that tests the boundaries of love. I actually too the header photo while I was in Venice, Italy. Was such a curious-looking place that I had to snap a pic.

Hmm I don’t know if miraculous is the right word for it. Seems like a lonely curse, never aging while the woman he loves does age and eventually dies, I’m sure 😦

You are so right, Jade. Perhaps that’s why he loves her and stays with her. I think his illness does cause his death eventually. Just he never looks old. Thank you, Jade.

This is lovely, but I see trouble in the future. Not from him, but how long will she be ok with getting old and wrinkly and him just staying as he was?

Those are the challenges they are currently facing. The tests are coming from outside perspectives in the form of pressures to conform to what is acceptable or normal. But if they remain true to their feelings for each other, maybe they’ll find a way.

Calls to mind Oscar Wilde’s A Picture of Dorian Gray, in which the title character never ages but his portrait shows every degradation of his character over time. It seems more of a curse than a blessing, to stay young alone.

Oooh! That sounds intriguing. You are so right. It challenges our beliefs about ageing and we find that life is valuable precisely because it ends. Because nothing stays the same, everything has value.

Very unusual take. I don’t know–never aging, while you watch the one you love grow older? Seems he’s in for a long string of relationships 🙂
